This weekend, Virtuosi Concerts presents a mid-winter fundraiser featuring the Winnipeg Boys’ Choir and the celebrated soprano Monica Huisman.
Amongst the premiere chamber concert series in the city, proceeds go towards the continued artistic activities and opportunities Virtuosi provides to outstanding out-of-town guest artists, established local performers, as well as up-and-comers.
One such musician is 17-year-old violinist Qiqi Zhang, a 2023-24 Virtuosi Young Artist Program winner.
A student of WSO Concertmaster Gwen Hoebig, Zhang has already won acclaim at the Canadian Music Competition, the Hong Kong International Violin Competition and Winnipeg Music Festival as a major prize and trophy winner.
Passionate about music, Zhang is a multi-instrumentalist, studying oboe with WSO principal Beverly Wang and voice with soprano Lida Szkwarek, while also exploring other musical opportunities through various ensembles at Fort Richmond Collegiate.
Zhang performs as part of the “Winter With You” concert fundraiser on Sunday, December 10 at Westworth United Church, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Admission is by donation, with a suggested minimum of $25.00, with tax receipts offered for individual tickets of $50.00 and above.
