The cast of Godspell says they are looking forward to bringing the musical to life for the community.

The musical is directed by Steinbach Arts Council’s David Klassen and Jeremy Plett with a talented cast of local performers.

Godspell was created in the 1970s and is based on the gospel of Matthew.

Cole Recksiedler will be playing Jesus.

“It’s definitely a daunting role, for sure,” he says.

Recksiedler adds the community musical is filled with many great songs and elaboratly performed versions of the parables.

“I think this is a show for everyone. I think families are going to love it. I think no matter what walk of life you're coming from, you can definitely take something out of this show,” he says.

Cast member Meg Pfeifer says her favourite part of being in Godspell is the workshopping they have done together.

"I think the thing that will draw people in the most is that it is really about community and that the whole show has been so collective,” Pfeifer says.

Recksiedler and Pfeifer say they have enjoyed working with a small the cast of 10 people, especially since they have the freedom to be creative and goofy.

"Seeing everybody come together and still being able to put on this musical in such a really fun and loving way, I think that's why you should come. And we dance and sing,” she says.

Tickets for the local production of Godspell can be purchased at the Steinbach Arts Council or online. The show runs from Thursday, Feb. 29, to Saturday, Mar. 2, at Steinbach Regional Secondary School theatre. The start time is 7:30 p.m.
