A choir at Waverley Church in Winnipeg that goes by the name Sing the Word is excited to perform the book of Philippians.
"We were inspired by Psallos albums on the books of the Bible back in 2021," says Bariah Adrain, one of the directors of the yearly concerts. "Our first concert was in 2022 with Psallos' Hebrews album. Then we followed it up the next year with the Romans album."
This year on May 24 and 25 Waverley Church is putting on a fundraising concert with Sing the Word with the concert beginning at 7:00 p.m.
"With our tech team, choir, band, and orchestra, [Sing the Word consists of] 70 people," says Cadence Penner, Adrian's sister and co-director.
"You can expect to come and see a little bit of everything," says Adrian. "We have songs that are country, rock, hip-hop, rap, all the way to a classical choral piece."
It takes a lot of people and time to put together this evening. Penner and Adrian, who are sisters, start prepping in August. The choir and band practice for almost six months before the big events.
"We're taking free will offerings to support our sister churches in Cuba," says Penner.
People interested in the concert can purchase tickets at the door for $10 at 2171 Waverley Street in Winnipeg.
