The annual Southeast Truck Show fundraiser was held this weekend, and they had a great turnout.
Truck enthusiasts gathered to talk about their trucks, and families joined in on the fun to help support local charities.
Bill Schroeder, volunteer and coordinator of the truck show explains what the event is all about.
“Today we support Steinbach Community Outreach and Soups On,” explains Schroeder. “It is a fun time for family. We have face painting, bouncy castles, food vendors, we have a bunch of prizes to be won, and a couple of concerts.”
The prizes were donated by local businesses, and they did two separate draws. The first draw took place at 1pm with another draw to follow in the afternoon.
Live music was presented by “Jake Brakes” and “Young n’ Haggard”.
Schroeder was a truck driver for 32 years and started this event 4 years ago to help a local charity.
“The reason I started this was due to my daughter,” he says. “She worked for YFC and one year she needed a couple of extra bucks to make ends meet. So, we figured we would get a couple guys together to make a shindig to raise some money. It ended up being 41 semis, 2 concerts, and raised $10,000 for a local charity, and that’s where it started.”
Although this truck show had the smallest turn-out so far with 30 semi-trucks, Schroeder is still very pleased with everyone who came out to support and the volunteers who put in time and energy into this event each year.
“I just want to say a big thanks to all. There are a lot of volunteers behind the scenes that we don’t think of while we’re doing this. In the end, it’s all about supporting the local charities and people who need help.”
