The City of Lacombe’s first inclusive playground has officially opened in Trinity Crossing.
The playground features a Miracle Recreation Kids Choice Inclusive Structure, wheelchair ramps, accessible moving components, and free-standing sensory elements.
The structure is a nautical theme, with an ocean blue colour scheme, and a Big Kahuna fish climber.
As part of the planning process for the Trinity Crossing subdivision, the developer was required to provide a new playground for children between two and 12 years of age, a City of Lacombe press release said.
The city provided additional funding to create an accessible playground for youth of all abilities to participate.
The playground project was completed for just under $420,000.
“The new inclusive playground will enhance the city’s service level in outdoor facilities and amenities, allowing everyone to have fun without barriers,” Mayor Grant Creasey said. “By bringing in the latest accessible playground equipment, we can help all our youngest citizens learn, grow, and be part of the excitement in Lacombe for generations to come.”
Landscaping is ongoing in the park while subdivision development continues.
