Growing up in Africa, David Opeyemi who now resides in Winnipeg was surrounded by music.
"After Christ saved my soul, I got interested in Christian music and that's where the journey began," David Opeyemi says.
While recording music was not the original plan, Opeyemi says, "In March 2018, our pastor encouraged me and he said he listened to one or two of the songs and he said that he thinks I should go and minister at this joint monthly worship program that we do."
While Opeyemi admits he was nervous, he says it was received well. "There was an elderly man who came to me and said, 'There's a real message in there. Have you thought about maybe recording?' I said no, my goal was just to sing it in the church."
Opeyemi says that the man then told him to go and pray about it.
"Honestly speaking, that was the first time that the thought came to my mind. So I went to the Lord in prayer. And I remember the Lord visited me in a unique way, and He spoke to me from the story of the leprous men in Second Kings Chapter 7."
Opeyemi recently released 'Mighty God,' which he says came after being inspired at a church group. "I was here in the teenagers and Children Group ministry and I just did an India monthly program and then there was this inspiration that was coming, you know, mighty God. I decided to teach the children and the teenagers and everybody seems to love it."
He hopes that the song serves as a reminder that, "This is who I really am, not what society says, not what somebody says about them but what God says about them. We find our mightiness and greatness in Him when we behold Him."
