Children, teenagers, and young adults will soon have another opportunity to participate in a spelling bee.
Dr. Titus Olukitibi says Raising the Foundations of Generations Inc. is, "Raising the foundation of generation through Jesus Christ."
Stemming from a vision from Isaiah 58:12, Olukitibi says, "We want to build a foundation that is strong for the generation and then what brought about this vision was the heart cry that the Lord gave me when I came to this land as an international student, I started doing evangelism on the street and also going to the park."
He recalls meeting teenagers in the park while evangelizing and hearing many of them had knowledge of who Jesus is.
As a PhD holder in microbiology and facial disease at the University of Manitoba, he is currently doing a postdoc at the University of Microbiology. Olukitibi says it's a great pairing to mix that with his faith to encourage the next generation.
Launching in 2023, Olukitibi, with the team at RFGimpacts put on a 2023 Scientific Spelling Bee Competition.
He says there were 80 people who attended, including the participants, families, and friends.
Not only were the participants learning how to spell words but they would spell words from the Bible. "We are planning a kind of a Bible competition where they spell some words in the Bible like Zechariah," Olukitibi says.
This year, the participants are set to be spelling scientific words. While they may be on break from school, this gives an opportunity to keep learning. "We have sent the words for them to practice. It helps their terminologies about scientific terms," Olukitibi says.
The Scientific Spelling Bee is at 9 a.m. on September 7, 2024 at 71 Curry Place.
