Project Patio has had a busy season celebrating events all summer long across Manitoba. All the events that we attended were lots of fun creating some great summer highlights.

We kicked off Project Patio by heading out to MacGregor for their annual Bull Bash, which was just the start of some amazing events taking place in June. Shortly after the Bull Bash was the Table for 600 and the Cruisin’ the Fort Car Show hosted in Portage. This led to various fairs across Manitoba in our first month of summer.

Lundar was busy the first two weeks of June getting prepared to host their 70th annual town fair. The Ag Society in Lundar was pleased with the various events they were able to bring to make this fair one to remember. It was the first year they were able to host the Manitoba Shorthorn Summer Show which attracted people from all over our province, as well as some people from Saskatchewan and Ontario.

4H also had some great achievements from the fair with 40 kids participating in the cattle projects. Organizers were glad to see new faces at the event and are already excited for next year.

Along with this, there was also the MacGregor Fair and National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebrations which was held at the Island Park. Tremendous support was seen at both events, as well as at the Treherne Fair which closed out Project Patio’s June events.

July was jam-packed with events to keep everyone entertained. July kicked off with Canada Day celebrations being held inside the Stride Center. Following that was a lineup of fairs, festivals, and fundraisers across the month.

The next event in July was the 152nd annual Portage Ex Fair. There is always lots to do at the fair, but they still have new surprises every year. They had a great list of performers coming to their main stage in the evening, such as the Sean Taylor Band, Don Amero, the Metis Prairie Steppers, and more.

Also at the Portage Exhibition were activities for the kids, magic shows, various food and drink vendors, and many things in the rodeo ring with one of the highlights being the mounted shooting and barrel racing.

Coming up after that was the start of biweekly outdoor concerts at Island Park. Other July events include the Manitoba Stampede, the Arborg and Carman Fairs, and Austin Thershermen’s Reunion and Stampede wrapping up the biggest month of events.

The first week of August continued the excitement, though there were many events taking place, Project Patio decided to dive into the airshow. The Manitoba Airshow was a huge event held in Southport that hosted thousands of people for the weekend and had amazing airshows such as the Skyhawks, Snowbirds, the WWII bomber Lancaster, and much more.

The Gladstone Fair, Portage Potato Festival, Teulon Truck and Tractor Pull, and other events also took place in August.

Though it was an active summer with all the events, Project Patio had a blast attending all of them and meeting so many new people along the way. We had fun in the sun this summer all across Manitoba.
