Welcome back to another Made in Manitoba, as we have a return visit of an artist to our program, Ila Barker. The Winnipeg-based Anishinaabe singer, songwriter and musician has released her debut full-length album “Fool Under Water”.

She describes it is a tough-but-tender testament to the possibility of survival, and a promise the tide will turn and things will get better.

Tonight on Made in Manitoba we'll get to know Ila, how she came to music, why "Fool Under Water" was a project years in the making and how the stories shared in the music are a way for others to find connection with someone who has gone through the same experiences. We'll also explore how she's giving back to the music community through her initiative "AIRsessions", a series of free music workshops for youth, which has a focus on gender equity and Indigenous representation in music.
