Providence University College and Theological Seminary in Otterburne is buzzing with activity as students begin to trickle back to campus for the new academic year.

Dr. Nicholas Greco, the Provost at Providence, says they are expecting around 140 first-year students this fall, with numbers coming from across Canada and internationally. "We're excited to welcome these students and increase our total enrollment to over 1,000.”

Noting some exciting updates about what's in store for students this fall.

"Students have already started arriving on campus. This was Welcome Week at Prov. I noticed that students were finding their way around the campus, meeting old friends and making new acquaintances and enjoying themselves. It's great to see them settling in. Right now, it's mostly our sports teams and some aviation students who are here early for their prep work."

Dr. Greco notes that the official start of classes is set for just after Labour Day.

"The first day of classes is Wednesday, September 4th. We have students beginning their courses both here in Otterburn and at our downtown Winnipeg campus."

Dr. Greco says, they are once again welcoming international students, despite previous restrictions. "We've been able to continue our graduate-level programs for international students. Although we are not taking new students into the business program, we do have new offerings this September, including a Master of Management and a Master’s Degree in Education and TESOL."

One of the new additions at Providence this fall is a certificate program in Chaplaincy and Spiritual Life, Dr. Greco explains. "This certificate gives students a chance to explore what chaplaincy is about. They can either complete the certificate or continue on to earn a full Master's Degree in this field."

Dr. Greco notes that for those interested in media and production, Providence has introduced an innovative approach through their Centre for On-Demand Education.

"This program allows students to learn and produce media at their own pace. You can think of it like a subscription service for your education. We have both undergraduate and master's programs available in media production arts."

Regarding the Otterburne campus, Dr. Greco says they have made some green upgrades. "We've planted over 200 trees on campus. The campus is looking beautiful, and it’s great to see the new greenery."

While no major renovations took place this summer, Dr. Greco hinted at future plans. "We’ve done a lot of maintenance work that's not immediately visible. As we approach our 100th anniversary in 2025, there will definitely be exciting updates and renovations on the way.”

Overall, it’s a thrilling time at Providence University College and Seminary, with new programs, fresh faces, and a commitment to enhancing the campus experience.
