After passing away on September 9, well-known Hollywood actor James Earl Jones is being remembered for his deep voice and impact on many.
While Jones was involved in many different movies and TV shows, he's most known as the voice of Darth Vadar in the first filmed Star Wars series in the late 70s and early 80s. He also gave life to the wise father lion, Mufasa, in The Lion King, released in 1994.
Jones died at the age of 93 years old at his home in Dutchess County, New York, surrounded by family.
Was he was little, Jones had a severe stutter which meant he didn't speak unless he absolutely had to. This all changed thanks to a childhood mentor and teacher who helped him overcome the stutter. This man also introduced Jones to faith in Jesus.
His interest in faith started in high school.
“Many of my classmates were Catholics, and I was curious about their religion,” Jones wrote in his autobiography.
He entered the army in the 1950s, took instruction in Catholicism and attended chapel.
After voicing Darth Vadar, Jones was asked to voice Pharaoh in the 1985 Christian series of Hanna-Barbera’s The Greatest Adventure: Stories from the Bible, to which he said yes. An opportunity to use his voice further came when he was asked to record the entire New Testament for an audio version of the Bible, which is called his “greatest honour."
"And so, when I was asked to record the New Testament, I really did it for a tall, lean man with gray hair who had not only helped to guide me to the author of the Scriptures, but as the father of my resurrected voice, had also helped me find abundant life," CBN reported.
In 2011, Jones won a lifetime achievement award by the Academy Awards. He also won three Tony Awards, including a lifetime honour in 2017, two Emmys and even a Grammy award.
