The Strathmore Municipal Library is launching its Strathmore & Area Adult Inclusive Learning (SAIL) program over the next month.
There are many programs in SAIL, from learning workplace skills to taking your Canadian Academic Education Credential (CAEC), formerly known as a GED.
"This is a very busy time of year as we're starting up our classes again," said Rhonda Rhys-Doering, literary services coordinator at the library. "Right now, it's kind of like the start of school for us as well."
There are four classes for learning English, from beginner to intermediate level, along with a scam and fraud prevention program in October.
"Most of our programs are either free or low cost. We always have one-to-one tutoring for students if they're working on any of these areas," added Rhys-Doering. "A lot of exciting things are happening right now."
Programs in SAIL run at different times throughout the month:
- Sept. 9 - Nov. 18 - Learn More English. (Intermediate)
- Sept. 17 - Nov. 5 - Learn English. (Beginner)
- Sept. 19 - Nov. 7 - Get Ready for CAEC.
- Oct. 1 - Nov. 19 - Skills for the Workplace.
"We love seeing the progress that people make. We are provincially funded with over 80 of these programs across Alberta. I think it's a great model for community members to access education in their own communities."
SAIL is also always looking for volunteers.
Those interested in volunteering for SAIL or attending one of the programs can learn more on the Strathmore Municipal Library's website.
