More than 80% of the Bangladeshi community in the Pembina Valley attended a wonderful and vibrant community picnic in the Altona Park on Saturday. The event was hosted by the Bangladeshi Society of Pembina Valley.

Organizer Jahangir Talukdar said, "This sort of event must have been a great way to bring together families and celebrate cultural heritage through food, fun activities, and cultural celebrations. This kind of initiatives also a great way of welcoming new community members. That’s how as a Bangladeshi we can carry our tradition to our new homeland in Canada.”

Talukdar was pleased respected community figures like Shelly Voth, Immigration Coordinator of City of Morden with family and Shepherd Chiwandire, Volunteer Coordinator from Regional Connections were present, recognizing the contributions of the Bangladeshi community.

Talukdar said more is expected to take place in the future.

"The Bangladeshi Society of Pembina Valley plans to organize more events and engage ourselves in social and community-based volunteering programs. With the enthusiasm of young volunteers, the society aims to actively contribute to Morden’s community initiatives. We are wishing continued success and efforts to strengthen community ties."
