The Winnipeg Jets reduced their training camp roster by 12 players on Tuesday. Forwards Chaz Lucius, Henri Nikkanen and Danny Zhilkin were assigned to the Manitoba Moose. Defensemen Dylan Anhorn, Dawson Barteaux and Ashton Sautner along with forward Ben King were released from their professional try-outs. Forwards Kevin He, Jacob Julien, Connor Levis, Markus Loponen and Kieron Walton were released to their junior clubs. The Jets play their third of six pre-season games tonight when they meet the Edmonton Oilers at Canada Life Centre.
The 2024 PointsBet Invitational gets underway today at the WinSport Event Centre in Calgary. Sixteen men’s and sixteen women’s teams are entered in the third annual bonspiel, all looking to get their 2024-25 campaigns kicked off in style, not to mention grab a big chunk of a prize purse in excess of $350,000. Seven Manitoba teams are in the field including Kerri Einarson, Kate Cameron, Kaitlyn Lawes, Chelsea Carey, Matt Dunstone, Reid Carruthers and Jordon McDonald.
Canadian para-cyclist Nathan Clement defended his world title in the T-1 men's individual time at the 2024 road cycling and para-cycling world championships in Zurich, Switzerland. The 29-year-old from West Vancouver, finished more than 85 seconds ahead of silver medalist Giorgio Farroni of Italy. Clement is on a roll after taking silver in the event earlier this month at the Paralympic Games in Paris.
