The Winnipeg Blue Bombers put their six-game win streak on the line tonight (7 p.m.) at home against the Edmonton Elks. The Bombers have made two changes to the depth chart this week. Linebacker Brian Cole and defensive tackle Devin Adams are in. Linebacker Kyrie Wilson and offensive lineman Kendall Randolph are out. Wilson has been moved to the six-game injured list. Winnipeg is in first place in the CFL West with an 8-6 record. The BC Lions are next at 7-7. The Bombers beat the Elks 27-14 last Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium.
The Southwest Cougars play their Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League season opener tonight against the Winnipeg Wild at Hockey for All Centre. The Cougars will also face the Pembina Valley Hawks Saturday in Morden.
Golf Manitoba has announced its 2024 Amateur Golfer of the Year finalists. The Female finalists are Charmaine Hayden, Addison Kartusch, Jeri Lafleche and Rhonda Orr. The Male finalists are Zostrianos Giordani-Gross, Braxton Kuntz, Allan McDonald and Marco Trstenjak. The winners will be announced at the Golf Manitoba Awards ceremony on Tuesday, October 29th at the St. Charles Country Club in Winnipeg.
Chelsea Carey and Kate Cameron have joined Kaitlyn Lawes and Jordon McDonald in the Elite 8 at the 2024 PointsBet Invitational in Calgary. Carey defeated Abby Burgess of New Brunswick 10-4 while Cameron downed Jolene Campbell of Regina 8-5. Kerri Einarson lost 8-6 to Allyson MacNutt of Halifax and Reid Carruthers fell 5-4 in an extra end to Felix Asselin of Quebec.
Olympic champion Maggie MacNeil has retired from swimming. The gold medalist in women’s 100-metre butterfly at the Tokyo Games in 2021 made the announcement in a social media post. The London, Ontario native also won world championship gold in the 100 butterfly in 2019.
