Portage & District Recycling Inc. (PDRI) is celebrating 35 years of disposing of waste properly in our community. General Manager Christine Major says they are proud of their work in the area.
"We would love to thank our community for the support over the last 35 years, we definitely could not have done it without them. They are wonderful recyclers, and we just want to share that with everyone."
With the changes to recycling over the last 35 years, Major outlines what services they have added to assist in local recycling.
"We have items that we collect, but not on curbside. You can drop these items off at our depot, located at 700 Phillips St, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Some of these items include tires, electronic waste, household hazardous waste, fluorescent bulbs, oil, anti-freeze and any containers that they come in. We also offer financial shredding."
To celebrate their thirty-fifth anniversary, they will be hosting a barbecue on Friday, October 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with other events ongoing at the same time.
"Everybody is welcome," Major elaborates. "We are serving a hotdog, drinks and a bag of chips; this is all free. You're welcome to have a tour of our plant as well. We're going to have some history put up so you can see where PDRI started and how we've evolved over the years. There will also be some free entries for prize draws as well."
