Fall florals in full bloom
With the changing season comes an exciting shift in the floral world, and Madi Schiller, owner of Bloom Floral, has some suggestions on how to embrace a Fall palette, with flowers. “Right now, we have fall mums in beautiful coppery tones, rust reds, and shades ranging from peach to orange to red,” Madi explained. “The cooler is full of lovely fall colors—so satisfying to see."
Madi emphasized that while summer brings its own beauty, fall’s warm colors are particularly inviting. “I say that every season, but fall’s really nice, and the warm colours just stand out,” she added.
"Pumpkins and Petals" workshop: A creative Autumn experience
Madi is gearing up for Bloom Floral’s upcoming Pumpkins and Petals workshop on October 11th, hosted by Winkler Arts and Culture. “It’s a fall décor workshop where participants can create decorative pumpkins, perfect as a table centerpiece or a gift for grandma,” she explained. Attendees will adorn their pumpkins with dried flowers, adding a long-lasting, beautiful touch to their fall décor. "These pieces make great crafts to do with your kids, too,” Madi noted.
The event will take place in a bright, welcoming space provided by Winkler Arts and Culture, with refreshments to enhance the creative atmosphere. “Tickets are just $35 per person, or $70 for a duo,” Madi said. "You can sign up at bloomfloral.ca."
Locally foraged and crafted with care
Madi’s passion for using local and natural elements in her designs shines through in her approach to the workshop. “I spend a lot of time foraging with my grandma,” she shared. “Some of the materials we use are locally sourced right here in the Pembina Valley, which helps us keep costs down while creating unique, beautiful pieces.”
One of the standout features in her workshop creations is the use of dried milkweed pods. “We used these pods during our Fleur de Ville dragon display, and they add such a unique, natural touch,” Madi explained.
Get creative or grab-and-go
For those unable to attend the workshop, Bloom Floral offers a wide selection of dried flowers and supplies for DIY enthusiasts. "We have fall wreaths and little decorative pumpkins available this weekend, so if you’re not the creative type or short on time, you can pop in and grab something already made,” Madi said. However, she encouraged everyone to give the creative process a try, noting, “Even if you don’t consider yourself creative, workshops like this are a great way to stretch your skills!”
The Pumpkins and Petals workshop takes place on October 11th at Winkler Arts and Culture. Tickets are available at bloomfloral.ca for just $35. Whether you’re a seasoned DIYer or just looking for a fun fall project, this event promises to be a creative and cozy way to welcome the season.
