For those living on the streets, survival often overshadows health concerns, and essential care can easily be overlooked.
That was the case for one individual, who recently shared how Siloam Mission’s health centre brought a life-changing realization to light—his need for glasses.
“When you’re living on the streets, you learn to get by with less. You don’t always realize just how much you’re missing,” Peter (name changed) explained, reflecting on how his eyesight had deteriorated without his knowledge. “Seeing an eye doctor was the last thing on my mind.”
It wasn’t until a visit to Siloam’s health centre that he decided to see the eye doctor, not expecting any surprises. “I thought my vision was fine,” he recalled. But after the doctor’s tests, he was stunned to learn that he needed glasses. “When they had me try on a pair, everything changed. It was like the world came into focus for the first time.”
The difference was immediate and powerful. He could read signs, see people from afar, and notice details he hadn’t been able to before. The staff at Siloam helped him choose a pair of glasses, an experience that left him feeling renewed. “It’s a small thing, but to me, it was a huge change. It reminded me that I was worth taking care of, that there’s hope, even in the hardest times.”
Now, every time he puts on his glasses, he’s reminded that clearer vision—and a brighter future—is within reach.
As the Change Happens Radiothon heads into the final day, stories like Peter's highlight the importance of Siloam Mission’s work, providing health services and hope to those who need it most.
