Walk-in clinics open this week for influenza and COVID-19 immunizations, and booked appointments are also available.

Dr. Hortense Tabien, medical health officer with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, said that fall is when an increase in respiratory illness is seen. “This is the best time to get your protection, that is going to take you throughout the season.”

Tabien said that vaccinating earlier affords the best protection for flu season. “Not only are you protecting yourself. You are also protecting people who may not be able to get vaccinated.”

She said that some groups are particularly at risk if they get influenza, including seniors 65 and older, those with chronic health conditions or compromised immune systems, young children, and pregnant women.

The regular flu vaccine is available at the clinics for those ages 6 months and older, and those over 65 can receive a high dose flu vaccine.

This year’s COVID-19 vaccines are Pfizer for those 12 and older, and Moderna for those ages 6 months to 11 years.

People who want a booked appointment can do so on the SHA Patient Booking System at 4flu.ca here, or by calling 1-833-727-5829.

Pharmacies can also administer vaccinations for those aged five or older.

People are reminded to bring their health card to the clinics or ID if they don’t have a Saskatchewan health card. It’s also recommended to wear a short-sleeved shirt.

There are plenty of clinic options in Moose Jaw and in surrounding rural communities including:
