Welcome back to Made in Manitoba, and tonight we're joined by the first ever Made in Manitoba guest all those years ago... Steve Bell. He's released his 23rd album. It's called "The Glad Surprise", and once again he's been gracious with his time to join us to talk about it.
The title track of the album was inspired by the words of black theologian Howard Thurman in his work "Jesus and the Disinherited". What Steve didn't know at the time, only when he stepped back and looked at all the songs on the album, themes from Thurman's work were woven throughout all of them... even though some of the songs had been written long before Steve read Thurman's book.
How that inspiration transformed into "The Glad Surprise" is chronicled in 130-page booklet that guides you through Steve’s writing process, and showcases the depth and breadth of his thinking during the process of creating the album.
The album also includes a cover of Bruce Cockburn's iconic "Lovers in a Dangerous Time", an artist Steve has previously talked about as an inspiration of his work. Why he chose to include it will be part of the conversation, too.
Steve Bell is back on Made in Manitoba, with music from his latest album "The Glad Surprise".
