It's a controversial topic.
In fact, just about every time I talk about it I get calls and emails from angry people who get worked up about Daylight Savings Time.
People across the country "fell back" overnight, switching their clocks and watches back by one hour. We don't do that in Saskatchewan and surveys have found the majority of us are against it.
While some in Saskatchewan brag about not having to fall back, others welcome the change. Friends of mine in Edmonton and Winnipeg love DST.
Some in Saskatchewan will tell you we're already on DST - year-round. I say those people are wrong. And don't get me wrong. The way my life is set up right now, I like the early sunrise. It starts getting light around 4:30 am from mid-June through mid-July.
However, if we made the switch, the summer sun would remain in the sky until after 10 o'clock in late June and early July. We'd have more daylight to play ball, golf and all the other outdoor activities like riding bikes and hiking. It just makes sense to me.
You know, among the proponents of DST are people who make a living in the tourism industry. Many believe longer evenings would give our tourists more time for shopping and attending other events and therefore boosting the local economy.
I wonder if that would, in fact, make a difference. We'll never know though...will we?
