He's back and he's promising to "make America great again".

Donald Trump was declared President-elect this morning. He delivered a victory speech at his watch party in West Palm Beach, Florida just after 2 o'clock in the morning.

It's interesting to note, Trump is the second President in US history to serve non-consecutive terms. The first was Grover Cleveland in the late 19th century.

It's also interesting to note our immediate neighbours to the south in Montana and North Dakota voted in favour of Trump's return to The White House.

What does it mean for Canadians? Well, I can tell you, a friend of mine who makes a living in the oil and gas industry posted on social media early today and I quote, "What a great morning!" There's not much doubt that Trump's support for fossil fuels will benefit our oil sector.

However, there are many in Canada who are concerned about the possibility of a more protectionist stance in America. Experts believe tariffs will be imposed which will lead to increased costs for Canadian goods entering the USA and that would have a negative impact on our economy.

It is also believed Trump's victory will be a boost to the conservative movement in Canada and you know, I think he'd get along with Pierre Poilievre a whole lot better than he does with Justin Trudeau.
