As the holiday season draws near, the City of Winkler is preparing to bring festive cheer to the community with its annual tree lighting ceremony at Bethel Heritage Park. Lucas Dyck, the Community Events Coordinator for Winkler, shared his excitement about this year’s event, which is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday (November 15).
Community spirit and togetherness
The evening will start with speeches from local dignitaries, followed by the much-anticipated countdown to the tree lighting. The event will feature a live performance by the Winkler Elementary School Choir, who will serenade attendees with classic Christmas carols, bringing an authentic holiday atmosphere to the park.
“I think it's important just to bring the community together,” says Dyck. “There [will] be bonding and fun for the community to kick off this season. It's just awesome to see everybody get together.”
Family-friendly activities for all ages
Throughout the evening, attendees will be treated to a variety of free family-friendly activities. Winkler Arts and Culture will host a craft station where children can make their own holiday-themed creations, while a petting zoo will provide added entertainment for younger visitors. Santa Claus will also be on hand for photos, and parents will receive free digital copies of these cherished moments.

This year, the large Christmas tree on the park's south side will be illuminated, adding to the festive ambiance with lights that will bring the park to life. Preparations are underway, with crews setting up the decorations and lighting to ensure everything is ready for Friday.
With classic carols like “Jingle Bells” and heartwarming community spirit, Winkler’s tree lighting ceremony promises to be a joyful way to kick off the holiday season.
