Bradley Bowles, Devon LeBlanc and Jackson Orr had two goals each for the Oil Kings while singles went to Jason Bowles, Jeremy Johnson, Joel Cosens, Tanner Koroscil, Nolan Wallace, James Sytnyk and Tanner Lewis. Callum Fortin had the lone goal for the Elks. Virden leads the Tiger Hills Hockey League's West Division with a 4-0 record. Souris is winless in three games this season.
Rylan Laderoute had a hat trick as Swan Valley defeated Roblin/Grandview/Gilbert Plains 7-4 in the lone Westman High School Hockey League game Thursday night. Jax Penner, Caleb Rooks, Easten Eggie and Payton Thompson also scored for the Tigers. Eastyn Hramalak had all four goals for the Raiders.
The Winnipeg Jets dropped a 4-1 decision to Tampa Bay. Jake Guentzel scored twice for the Lightning. Adam Lowry had the lone goal for the Jets who suffered just their second loss of the season. Winnipeg had a chance to become the fastest team in NHL history to get 16 wins in a season (17 games). The Jets (15-2) wrap up their three-game road trip Saturday when they meet the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers running back Brady Oliveira is the CFL's Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Canadian. Oliveira led the league in rushing yards for the second year in a row and also led the CFL in yards from scrimmage. Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive back Rolan Milligan Jr. is the Most Outstanding Defensive Player; Toronto's Janarian Grant is the Most Outstanding Special Teams Player; Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman is Ryan Hunter of the Argos; Edmonton Elks linebacker Nick Anderson the Most Outstanding Rookie and Montreal's Jason Maas is the Coach of the Year. The Blue Bombers will meet the Argonauts in the 111th Grey Cup Sunday in Vancouver.
The International Olympic Committee's Coordination Commission wrapped up its three-day visit to check out selected venues and track the progress of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Next year, the Games plan, venues & competition schedule, medal event program and athlete quota will be finalized.
