Strathmore's Canada Post branch, located inside of the Value Drug Mart, has been affected by the ongoing postal worker's strike.
A sign outside of the store says that they are unable to accept any letters or parcels at this time. This comes after a national strike by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) began on Friday (Nov. 15).
According to Canada Post's website, all operations will be shut down during the strike, which affects millions of Canadians and businesses across the country.
Despite the strike, residents can still use the Strathmore Canada Post branch for money orders, gift cards, purchasing stamps, coins, and packing supplies, along with mail forwarding and hold mail service.
Canada Post received notice of the strike on November 12, providing the required 72-hour notice before starting. The strike comes after lengthy discussions between CUPW and Canada Post, with the latter saying that the negotiations "were less productive than hoped for".
After failing to reach an agreement, CUPW decided to go on strike, which affects 55,000 postal workers in the country.
The last CUPW strike was in 2018, which lasted around a month. The strike ended after the federal government introduced back-to-work legislation.
