Winnipeg police have released surveillance images of a suspect wanted in connection with a serious assault in late October that left a 56-year-old man with life-altering injuries.

The attack occurred around 5:05 a.m. as the victim was walking eastbound on Ellice Avenue near Beverley Street. Police say the suspect, believed to have been armed with a machete, approached the man from behind and assaulted him in an unprovoked attack.

Investigators confirm the victim and the suspect are not known to each other.

The Major Crimes Unit has taken over the case and is seeking the public’s help to identify the suspect.

The suspect is described as approximately 5’10” with a thin build and long dark hair. At the time of the assault, he was wearing black and white Nike Air Jordan shoes, dark pants, and a dark hoodie with the number "02" prominently printed on the back.

Images captured on surveillance during the incident have been released in hopes someone may recognize the individual.
