The Humboldt area’s first true taste of winter is likely on the way. Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a winter storm watch for all of eastern Saskatchewan as a low pressure system makes its way into the province, moving to the northeast

“So we're really going to see the effects of that system begin this afternoon (Monday). The precipitation is expected to start as rain, but there's a good cold air push behind the low that's going to cool things down quite a bit. So, we're expecting that precipitation to change to snow this evening. With that as the rain transitions to snow, there is a possibility there may be some freezing rain with that, and then through Tuesday, temperatures are going to cool further.”

Along with the intensifying snow, gusty northwesterly winds are expected, driving the snow across roadways. That means reduced visibility and the potential for slippery conditions and snow accumulations for travellers. Check the Saskatchewan Highway Hotline before setting out.

Moodie says conditions should impact all of east central Saskatchewan. It should begin to weaken on Wednesday and throughout the day, things will get back to normal conditions.
