On Wednesday (Nov. 20) residents across the province will hear a test of the National Public Alerting System.
"At 1:55 p.m., an Alberta Emergency Alert test will be issued across multiple channels including television, radio, wireless devices, websites, social media, the Alberta Emergency Alert mobile app and directly to compatible cellphones across the province," says the provincial government in a news release.
Staff with the province say the tests allow them to fix system issues and are usually done every May and November to make sure Albertans can receive life-saving information during emergencies like tornadoes, wildfires, and Amber Alerts.
According to the Alberta government, the test alert is a good way for families, friends, and coworkers to talk about making a plan in case of an emergency.
Tips include:
- Do residents have emergency kits ready in their houses?
- What plans do people have for their pets and livestock?
- How would residents respond if it was a real test alert?
