One person has died during a vehicle pile-up on Highway 1 on Monday morning (Nov. 18) near Cluny.
An RCMP news release says at around 10:24 a.m. police were dispatched to a crash involving a pick-up truck and several semi-trucks on the westbound lanes of the highway, southeast of Strathmore.
When officers arrived they discovered the driver of the truck, a 51-year-old resident of Redcliff, Alberta was dead. According to police, there were no other injuries.
The highway was closed for over six hours due to major delays. Police say it has now re-opened, and all semi-trucks have been towed.
In an earlier release, police described over 12 vehicles involved in the pileup. Officers believe that poor road conditions were a factor in the crash.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, the area experienced heavy snowfall on Monday morning, amounting to 10 to 15 centimetres.
