It’s feeling a lot like winter this morning, with fresh snow falling in Moose Jaw and surrounding areas overnight.
Highways 1 and 2 are reporting reduced visibility and icy conditions with drifting snow this morning and are either partly covered or covered with snow.
Motorists are encouraged to check the Highway Hotline before heading out this morning for the most up-to-date conditions.
James Colangelo, meteorologist with Environment Canada, said it’s hard to say how much snow has fallen, and they’re still gathering information.
“Snow has tracked westward a little bit more than expected, and we’re going to see that continue throughout the day and into the night,” he explained.
“We have a system moving up from the US into southern Manitoba this morning, and we’re going to see – potentially – another 5 to 15 cm fall over much of eastern Saskatchewan throughout the day today, and into the night.”
He added that with the low-pressure system coming up, people can expect strong wind gusts over at least the next 24 hours. In Moose Jaw, Tuesday is expected to see wind gusts reaching 70 km/h during the day and 60 km/h during the nighttime period, before fading during the morning on Wednesday.
Around 5 to 10 cm of snow is expected to fall throughout the day on Tuesday, with a further 2 cm to fall tonight.
With the wind chill, it’s expected to reach minus 17 by Tuesday afternoon, getting to minus 20 with the wind chill overnight.
