Environment Canada’s snowfall warning for east central Saskatchewan was right on target with a significant overnight dumping of snow amounting to around 25 cm accumulation by Tuesday morning.
As expected, the overnight snowfall has played havoc on regional highways, grids and in town and city streets. The snow was accompanied by north winds gusting in the 50 – 70 kilometre range resulting in drifts and reduced visibility. Ice patches may appear in clear areas due to wind and snow.
Saskatchewan’s Highway Hotline shows snow covered roads east of Saskatoon for about 200 kilometres to the northeast, east, and southeast. Plows will be mobilizing throughout the day, and drivers are urged to take care while the roads are being cleared. Remember to obey all laws and speed limits around snowplows and slow done in the spray zone.
The snowfall is expected to last throughout the day with another 10-15 cm accumulated today and an additional 5 cm overnight. The system should move out on Wednesday through the day leaving a one-day reprieve before a less vigorous snowfall returns on Friday.
