Update:

The Ponoka RCMP confirmed that approximately 80 calves were on the truck, and three were found to be deceased.

A livestock emergency response unit responded while a local veterinarian assessed the calves.

“The auction guys were there very quickly, and they saved a lot more than if it had happened anywhere else,” RCMP said. “They had cattle haulers on trucks right there and were taking them straight into the facility."

The scene was clear around 12:20 p.m., Tuesday afternoon.

The circumstances of the collision are still under investigation.
