Coming up this Sunday night, November 24th at 7pm at the Fort Garry Hotel, Jazz Winnipeg is inviting audiences to get their Groove on with the Very Groovy Things.
Consisting of four of Winnipeg’s finest singers and band, the Very Groovy things specialize in music from the 60s. The core of the group’s repertoire coming from the Mama’s and the Papa’s, but their set list also includes music from the 60’s Laurel Canyon Scene, as well as some tunes from the British Invasion.
This is going to be an incredibly fun concert full of nostalgia and good vibes. A concert that will make you yearn for the time before drum machines, auto-tuning, and the bloated studio production of today.
The Very Groovy Things have had a lot of success selling out shows to an audience where the demographic ranges in age from 20 somethings to 70 somethings. Jodie Borle is a singer in the Very Groovy Things. She credits the music from the 60s as being the biggest seller of the shows. “The appeal of that music is that there are certain bands and certain musicians who play such timeless music, people will come to see the show. It’s such good music that it doesn’t matter what decade it is people will come to see the show...It’s a core memory of being younger, of a more innocent time. And I think that is the appeal for a lot of people no matter what age you are to come and listen to this music and just be transported back to a time that was arguably simpler than our time right now.”
The first part of Sunday’s concert will feature Borlie preforming alongside a trio, and then in the second part of the evening the other Groovy Things will be joining her on stage, along with the other musicians in the band.
The four singers that make up the Very Groovy Things are Jodie Borlie, Bill Quinn, Olivia Maxfield and Dan Rochegood.
The band consists of some powerhouse musicians on the Winnipeg scene. Rick Boughton on piano, Kinsey Posen on bass, Rob Siwik on drums, James Hickerson and Terry Barnett, and Cal Weise on flute.
Sunday night’s performance with the Very Groovy Things is SOLD OUT, so if you don’t have tickets, you will just have to wait until these guerrillas of 60’s music perform their next concert.
This is sure to be a fantastic show!
The performance takes place this Sunday night, November 24th at 7pm at the Fort Garry Hotel.
