There's been a slight change of plans for Spike Grooming’s monthly pet nail trim fundraiser, happening today from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

The location is changing from Pet Valu, with the nail trim event now happening at Spike Grooming’s building at 817 High St W instead.

Megan Weiland, owner of Spike Grooming, expressed gratitude to Pet Valu for the use of their space, but explained the change is happening to help with traffic flow in light of the event’s increasing popularity.

“With that growth, there always come some challenges. We have noticed that the line up in Pet Valu can get quite long, and this leaves pet parents and their dogs, and their kids, and their cats all waiting in line, getting a little bit more nervous as the wait goes on,” explained Weiland.

She said that the decision to move to the Spike Grooming location on High Street has been made to help reactive or anxious pets take part in the nail trims, and she added that the move will also help the team have more ready access to all their tools and equipment.

The appointment process will also see a change from Pet Valu. People are asked to come into Spike Grooming between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., let the staff know that they’re there, and leave their phone number.

Weiland said they’ll either phone or text you when they’re ready for your pet to come inside for the trim.

“It’s kind of like when you’re waiting for a table at a restaurant – sometimes they’ll give you the little beeper, and you and your family can go sit in the car until the table’s ready.”

She added that if you don’t have a cell phone, you can come in and let them know what car you’re in, and they’ll come out to let you know when they’re ready for you.

The cost of the trims is a donation to the Moose Jaw Humane Society, with owners able to donate as much or as little as they can.

Today’s event is their final group nail trim fundraiser of the year, though those unable to make it can still get in to get a trim and make their contribution.

“We just ask that you take a peek on Facebook around that Monday/Tuesday mark, and we will be posting throughout December and January what days we will be doing them,” said Weiland.

“Our goal for December with no nail trim events will be that we will provide nail trims for at least two or three days out of each work week before Christmas.”

If you have any questions about the nail trim event, you can reach out to Spike Grooming at 306-692-8166.

One hundred per cent of the proceeds raised through the nail trim fundraiser go to the Moose Jaw Humane Society. Weiland said that so far this year, they have raised $11,180.
