A Christian organization called Tearfund Canada is helping combat poverty and injustice around the world through God's love. They are inviting Canadians to join them on Giving Tuesday to help those most in need.

"I'm the new CEO of Tearfund," says Trisha Okenge, the President and CEO of Tear Fund Canada. "I started in September. I grew up on a little family farm in rural Ottawa. But I spent most of my life implementing and managing humanitarian and development projects for a Christian NGO in Rwanda, Uganda, and most recently in Ethiopia."

Tearfund's vision is to see people freed from poverty, living transformed lives, and reaching their God-given potential, according to Okenge.

"We have a very interesting view or theory of poverty. It's not just about physical things, material things, or even money or economics. We actually believe poverty is rooted in deeply broken relationships. These relationships broke during the fall. In order to combat poverty and restore wholeness, we look at the restoration of the four broken relationships."

Those four relationships include between God and people, within people, with people and others, and finally with people and creation. They also train local churches in different countries throughout Africa to help lead people out of extreme poverty.

"For us, it's really about empowering the local church to be the catalyst for change," says Okenge. "We believe the church is God's way of changing the world."

"We have a very special Giving Tuesday campaign to rush food to South Sudan. I can't over exaggerate the level of suffering and hunger that's taking place there. Currently, over half the population is facing acute food insecurity."
