The Westside Community Church is extending an open invitation to all for its annual Community Christmas Dinner, scheduled for Wednesday, December 25th, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. This heartwarming tradition promises not only a festive feast but also a chance to connect, celebrate, and create lasting memories with neighbors and friends.

Pastor Gerald Dyck, who leads the church, expressed his gratitude and amazement at the overwhelming response from volunteers.

“We’ve had such an incredible turnout of people wanting to help,” Pastor Dyck shared. “From cooking and serving to cleaning and even driving guests to and from the church, the support has been phenomenal. It’s a privilege to work alongside such caring and committed individuals.”

What’s on the menu?

The meal itself is sure to delight, featuring meatballs, mashed potatoes, vegetables, Christmas bacon, and a variety of holiday staples that make for a comforting, traditional Christmas dinner.

“All the food is being prepared by a talented and dedicated team,” said Pastor Dyck.

A place for everyone

The event is open to everyone, regardless of background or beliefs. “Whether you’re coming with family, friends, or on your own, you’re welcome here,” Pastor Dyck said. “We want this to be a space where people feel valued, cared for, and connected, especially on a day as special as Christmas.”

For those concerned about dietary needs, the church is also offering a halal meal option, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the celebration without worry.

Community and hope

For Pastor Dyck, the Community Christmas Dinner is about much more than food. It’s about fostering a sense of community and hope.

“What makes this event special to me is twofold,” he said. “First, seeing people walk through the doors, being warmly greeted, seated, and cared for—it’s a beautiful thing. Second, the energy and joy in the kitchen and dining room as volunteers work together. It’s not just work; it’s life-giving.”

The dinner also serves as a reminder of the values central to the holiday season: love, hope, and generosity.

“As a pastor, Christmas for me is about the story of light and hope entering messy spaces,” Pastor Dyck reflected. “It’s about sacrificial love and the opportunity to model that in our community. While this is something we strive to do year-round, Christmas provides a unique focus and a chance to bring people together.”

All are welcome

Whether you’re from Morden, Winkler, or beyond, everyone is encouraged to attend. “If you’re looking for a place to celebrate, or simply want to connect with others, we’re here for you,” Pastor Dyck said.
