Although India has a high level of Christian persecution, some of the cast from The Chosen recently went there for a screening and were met with a warm welcome.
According to the World Watch List, India comes in at number 11 for the country with the highest amount of Christian persecution, with roughly five per cent of the population identifying as Christians.
Paras Patel, the actor who portrays Matthew, one of Jesus's disciples in the show, and fellow actor Aalok Mehta, who plays Barnaby, recently visited Mumbai for a screening of The Chosen.
"Mumbai made Paras (Matthew) and Aalok (Barnaby) feel right at home," says The Chosen on Facebook. "Both of their families are originally from India."
About 1,500 people showed up for the screening.
The fifth season of the widely popular show about Jesus will be released first in the theatres, airing episodes 1 and 2 on March 27 in time for Easter.
