With positions unfilled in the area, the Pine Creek School Division is hosting a Recruiting Job Fair in Gladstone.
Sandra Meilleur, the division's Superintendent, outlines why they have opted to go this route.
"The purpose it to reach out to more local people. We have reached out to universities and colleges for some professional positions such as teachers, mechanics and such. But we're really needing a lot of bus drivers. We have a shortage in regular-route bus drivers, as well as casual drivers. Those positions, we would like to fill with local people, and to support our local communities. It's the same with educational assistants, custodians and so on."
Meilleur adds that roles in the classroom are the key areas they are focused on attracting people to.
"Right now, we have two vacant teaching positions, we have a huge shortage, like all other school divisions, in teaching casuals, and really casuals across the board. So, we're trying to attract more local people, and we thought this might be a great idea to get it started."
The job fair will be January 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. for those in the area to learn more about each position.
