Impactus, formerly known as Promise Keepers, is carrying on the legacy of discipling men in Jesus Christ, including in Winnipeg.
Earlier this month the founder of Promise Keepers, Bill McCartney, passed away.
"He's left quite a legacy," says Ian Nairn, the Community Relations Manager with Impactus in Winnipeg. "A dear friend of his, Dave Wardell, were in a car many years ago and were struck by a need for men to be engaged in what really matters to the Lord, to their families, to the church and the communities they lived in. It exploded into stadium events but also led to men meeting and walking together in accountable relationships."
Thanks to a few men who went down to the States to take part in one of the Promise Keeper conferences back in the 90s, the men's ministry was brought back to Canada. Today, the name of the ministry is Impactus, and it has a chapter right in Winnipeg.
"Impactus is solely Canadian governed," says Nairn. "Many guys connect virtually as well as in person. The heart of the ministry is to reach the next generation to become a global online-centered ministry. Our vision is to see every man become, grow, and live as a disciple of Jesus."
Men from all over Canada can engage in the ministry with the many resources on their website.
"A second wing of our ministry is going direct to the church where we're seeking to see men meaningfully engaged in serving the Lord, serving their leaders, serving their families, and being men of impact in the communities they live and the workplaces."
There is an Impactus men's two-day conference happening March 21-22 at Church of the Rock, with the theme of being rooted in Christ, rooted in truth, and rooted in justice.
"This ministry has been life-giving for us personally as a family," says Nairn.
