The Polar Plunge is making its highly anticipated return to Portage la Prairie today, with participants preparing to jump into icy waters for a great cause. Hosted at Stride Place, the event raises funds for Special Olympics Manitoba, and organizers are excited to see it back after a few years of changes.

Kristen Tompsett, an event organizer, shared her excitement for the plunge.

"We're ready, we're bringing in the tank tomorrow, and we'll be all set to fill it up with water. It's always so much more fun when you have spectators cheering on the participants."

This year's event has already attracted a record 30 participants, with more expected to sign up.

"We're at our highest number to date, and I'm extremely excited about that."

While the event officially kicks off at 1:00 P.M., registration opens at noon for last-minute sign-ups.

Tompsett also highlights the fun atmosphere, with many participants donning creative costumes to take the plunge.

"Superheroes are definitely a big fan favorite."

Adding that it's all in support of the athletes who benefit from the funds raised.

With temperatures forecasted to be milder today, the cold-water plunge is expected to be a little less extreme than in years past, but participants and spectators alike can expect plenty of fun and excitement for a great cause.
