International Women’s Day is all about celebrating the resilience of women around the world. Here in southern Manitoba, Agape House is celebrating women at their annual Purple Gala on Friday, March 7th.
The Purple Gala promises to be an evening of delicious food, live entertainment, powerful stories, and support for a vital cause – Agape House.
Agape House is a nonprofit organization that provides a safe space and 24/7 support to those experiencing gender-based violence in southeastern Manitoba. Executive Director Tracy Whitby says this year’s Gala will be a night of connection and community.
“We’re very excited to have Tsungai Muvingi at the Gala in person this year,” says Whitby. “She is the Provincial Coordinator for the Manitoba Association of Women’s Shelters – so she’ll share about shelters in general and the work that Agape House does.
“And we also have two special guests – two survivors who will be sharing their stories, which will be incredibly impactful. We are very much looking forward to hearing them share their experiences and their journey in overcoming an abusive situation, and how Agape House has supported that.
Lisa Fast is Outreach and Housing Coordinator for Agape House. She adds, “These women’s stories are powerful reminders of resilience, hope, and the importance of support in breaking the cycle of abuse. Their stories will be an inspiring, heartfelt part of the evening, showing firsthand the impact of community and advocacy in empowering survivors.”
In addition to celebrating women’s strength and courage, the Purple Gala always features a standout silent auction.
“This year's auction features an incredible grand prize – an opportunity to win a WestJet flight for two!” shares Fast. “Alongside a terrific variety of fantastic prizes donated by local businesses and supporters.”
“Our silent auction is always second to none,” adds Whitby. “We just have such a wonderful community that supports us and steps up to provide these amazing prizes. We're incredibly grateful.”
Fast adds, “Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Three-Way Builders, guests will be able to capture the evening with a fun, memorable photo from Snap Joy Photo Booth.”
“We’re incredibly excited to welcome Sarah the Wild Hooper with her circus-style act and we can’t wait to see how she blows us away!” shares Whitby. “And joining us again this year is radio personality Carly Koop returning as emcee. Guests can look forward to live entertainment with dance performances and DJ for after the program.”
“We always have delicious appetizers,” adds Fast. “We're even having a doughnut wall this year, which is going to be super fun! And of course a purple signature drink.”
Whitby points out that they have some amazing sponsors for their Purple Gala.
“We have two Gold Sponsors this year – SGI Canada and TD Bank. All of our sponsors will be showcased throughout the evening. We're very grateful for our community that has helped us make this event possible.”
Even though the event will feature world-class entertainment, food, and drinks, Whitby says it’s the people who make the Purple Gala an event not to be missed.
“Just being in a room with like-minded individuals is so special – everybody there cares about our community, cares about making a difference. This is an evening to celebrate how far we've come, what we’ve achieved, and just enjoy the atmosphere of being with so many others who feel the same way!”

“Businesses can purchase a table of eight,” Whitby adds. “With that you get brand exposure, engaging with the community, and showcasing your commitment to a great cause. Plus, enjoy $10 off a ticket! And you could give that as a gift, what a great way to thank your staff!”
