Singtheword, a choir from Waverly Church in Winnipeg, is performing the book of Habukkuk from the Bible through song form on Friday evening to help support the new album.

"We [Singtheword choir] started with performing Hebrews because we thought these albums were such a great expression of the New Testament letters," says Cadence Penner. "We wanted to put them on as a church."

Penner is the songwriter of the 18 songs exploring the book of Habakkuk, in an album titled When I Can't See. Penner got her inspiration from the group Psallos from Texas who composed songs from different New Testament books. She also is a singer in the choir.

"It really started as a dumb idea between me and my sister," says Bariah Adrian. "Let's try putting on this concert. Suddenly we have this big concert and everyone's like, 'We're doing another one, right?' And we were like, we're doing another one? It was God bringing all the pieces together. Obviously He knew this ministry had to be here."

Adrian, Penner's sister, is one of the directors of Singtheword as well as one of the singers in the choir.

"We wanted to jump into the Old Testament," says Penner. "We felt the book of Habukkuk was a strong message for our time. It's a book about suffering and how to live by faith in God in the midst of those times when we can't understand what God is doing."

The fundraising concert, "When I Can't See," will be performed on Friday, Mar. 21 at Waverly Church in Winnipeg at 7:00 p.m. The concert is free to attend but people have to register first here. There is a second performance on Friday, Apr. 11.
