Going through the wringer is what led to a new song from a Canadian artist, Matt LeFait released "The God Who Sees Me."

"Last year, my wife and whole family went through the wringer. There were seasons of loss and uncertainty. I literally wrote this song in that season, like right in the middle of it, the song's written from Genesis 16 about Hagar, Abraham, and Sarai."

"Hagar was Abraham and Sarai's servant. They couldn't have kids, so then they tried to rush God's plan even after they were promised they would have a child," LeFait said. "She's in the desert because she runs away from Abraham and Sarai and an angel meets her there and says. 'I'm going to promise you all these great things. Your descendants will be great.' In the season of distress, she says 'You are the God who sees me.' So that's the tagline from the song."

While the song was inspired by the challenges LeFait and his family faced, the end of the song has an important reminder that he had to hold on to. "That was a real moment of, like, it's been one of these years. I didn't see it coming and at the end of the song, it wraps up by saying, 'But I'm gonna hold on to the promises of God. You've never left me down.'"

"The God Who Sees Me" features John Waller, which was unexpected for LeFait. "I was looking for a great collaboration for the song. One thing led to the next, and I hadn't actually hadn't heard or seen anything from John in years. I was a huge fan of "While I'm Waiting." All of a sudden, his stuff started popping up in my algorithm, which is really random."

Waller was also going through a rough patch last year and in the season of waiting, so LeFait reached out and was excited to have Waller on board. "It was kind of a cool sequence of events that led to a God moment, really, for this all coming together."

While working with John was a valuable experience for LeFait, there was another feature that was close to his heart. "I have my son Kayden on this song as well. He plays guitar, so if you listen to the chorus, you can hear some finger-picking. He's much better at that than I am. So I'm two special guests on this song."

While the song was written while going through the wringer, LeFait can look back and see how God was at work through it all. "I was literally in like a season of depression and I had never gone through that stuff before. When I started writing the song, it was a dark moment for me. I didn't see it coming and just seeing the transition from that to letting the song sit all year, I don't know if I'm ready, and I was getting better. Seeing from the first ink on that page to getting John Waller on the song and being able to collaborate with a hero of mine. It was cool to see. It started at this low moment, and then God flipped the switch into something I couldn't even expect. So it was a redeeming moment."

LeFait says a music video for "The God Who Sees Me" is on the way. The lyric video can be seen below.
