After a three-year wait, fans of When Hope Calls will be able to watch the show on Pure Flix and will be introduced to some new characters.
Canadians, Cindy Busby and Christopher Russell join the cast for Season 2 and are excited for the opportunity. "The opportunity to be a part of a show that has such a very hopeful audience and an audience that's been very loyal and patient, they're just so excited for the show to come out, and they're going to be seeing many new faces along with new faces they'll recognize from the movies and the first season," Busby said.
"It's been a dream come true. The writer slash creator slash showrunner, Alfonso, has written a beautiful Season 2 and he's integrated all the best elements of Season 1 and done a really good service in honouring the original storyline and blending it into this new one and introducing our characters."
"Viewers will be immersed in a world of community, connection, romance, action, and animals," Busby said. "We have these incredibly talented kids that are part of the orphanage that I got to work with quite closely. They just have such wonderful personalities and I think there's really something for everyone in this show."
Russell said the show is perfect for all generations. "It's a show that everyone can watch, and it's especially the type of show that the entire family can watch together, every generation, from the grandparents right down to the little ones, and they can all get something out of it and they can all have a way to connect with each other afterwards and be able to discuss key story elements that touch their heart."
This isn't the first time that Busby and Russell have worked together, Busby said that there was a specific moment that stood out to her on this project. "We had a scene together for the first time where I kind of bump into him and we have this really awkward moment. To be honest, even though Chris is a really good friend of mine and we've worked so many times, I was a little bit nervous because this is a new world for us to work together and the moment that we had that scene, I could just really see us as these characters and really feel the difference in this show versus the other projects."
While the two are good friends in real life, their characters share a special connection. "I play Mountie Michael Fletcher, who is very serious about upholding the law. He sees most things in black and white, and he's always on high alert for any unlawful activity. Then, to make matters more interesting when he discovers Nora's a lawyer who defends potential criminals that can create a little fun drama between the two of them because you have these conflicting feelings of I'm drawn to this person and I don't know why, because they represent something that I'm technically against."
For both Busby and Russell, getting to work on a show set in Canada was extra special. "I grew up in Montreal, Que. and we shot this right outside of North Bay, Ont.," Busby said. "That's really, important to me, to bring this world to life, part of rural Canada is extra special because that's part of who I am."
After watching Season 2, Russell hopes that viewers will feel better about the world. "I'm sure that people will walk away from this feeling a little bit better about the world they live in. They will feel a little more hopeful in humanity. People do love each other and can be there for each other. If you're giving then you will receive and you can build a community and that's what this show is about."
When Hope Calls Season 2 will be released on Pure Flix on April 3, 2025 and available to watch on Super Channel, Heart and Home on April 6.
