You’ve already seen the message on social media: Spilling Prairie Tea is bringing “Bloom: Find Your Pink” to Weyburn. But one big question remains. What exactly is Bloom?
“Bloom is a day for women to come and join us and find their passions,” said Bloom and Spilling Prairie Tea member Lindsee Michel. “It’s all about empowering our community and empowering women that day.”
Michel was at the core of the planning for this community-wide event, as noted by one of her Bloom committee members, Lindsay Manko-Bauche.
“She gathered women together and then that has just ended up being this ripple effect in our community where people want to be connected in person with one another. So Lindsee reached out to a number of us individually, who are all interconnected but come from vastly different backgrounds from each other and that has been our strength. I keep telling people in our community that this is like working on a group project where everybody does their jobs and that is a very refreshing and beautiful and empowering thing that we are experiencing and we think it going to be a really fantastic thing for people to ride the wave of here.”
The event is planned for May 31st and will feature a wide assortment of local businesses and presenters who are aiming to help women ‘find their pink’.
“When flamingos have their babies, they lose their pink feathers,” explained Michel. “So, once their babies have grown and they are no longer nursing or being mothers, they are trying to get their pink feathers back. So it’s a cool concept that we, as women, are ever-changing and ever-evolving. We start as new moms, some of us, and then we go into ‘thinking that we have it all together’ moms, and then all of a sudden we have to say goodbye to our children and we’re starting all over from where we started. So all of these stages and all the evolution of the woman is about how do we come back to that? How do we bloom and how do we adapt through every evolution that we go through?”
She also noted that the day is not about just finding yourself but making connections along the way.
“I think sometimes what we’ve done is we’ve lost ourselves in those connections with media when the human connection and our community is what it’s really about,” she said. “Finding women who are like-minded and building that community within our community gives us support as we go through the evolutions and all these changes as women.”
And community is at the core of this event.
“The day isn’t just about empowering women and finding your pink,” said committee member Danielle Knoll. “It’s also about highlighting all of these local business partners that we have. We’re really on this love local platform here and we really want people to have an opportunity to try something new or step into a business that they’ve never been before and realize how many things we have available right here in Weyburn.”
Many of these local businesses that Knoll talks about will be an integral part of the Bloom event.
“We have 32 local presenters who have stepped up to showcase their talents and their passions for women around Weyburn,” added committee member Lindsay Manko-Bauche. “We are talking anything that really ties to health and hobby for an opportunity for people around Weyburn and area to find their pink. So anything from equine therapy to pottery, we’ve got you covered.”
“And not only that,” added committee member Krista Hubic. “Over lunch, we have an organization coming in from Regina know and RaiseHER. RaiseHER is a Saskatchewan-based, impact leadership and skill development organization. They’re going to talk to us all about owning your power, confidence, imposter syndrome, and finding your why.”
Committee Member Twyla Walkeden added that while tickets aren’t available yet, it will be important to buy them early when they become available.
“We’re opening up registration online on April 7th,” she said. “We want to encourage everyone once the registration opens to register early because we highlight anticipate this being a sellout event. We don’t want anybody to be disappointed and not get into the events that they want.”
Included in the tickets are a morning meet and greet, two morning sessions from one of the many presenters, lunch at the Legion which will feature RaiseHER, and then two more afternoon sessions.
“It’s been a really cool project to work with,” added Michel. “It's truly about community. It’s about our community businesses. It’s about our community organizations. It’s about the citizens of the community. It’s just a collaboration of all of us together as one.”
