Music and movies will fill the summer evenings in the RM of Ritchot as the municipality brings back its Homegrown Harmonies concert series and outdoor movie nights.
The Homegrown Harmonies concert series is entering its third year, featuring local musicians in a relaxed outdoor setting. Danielle Peters, coordinator of community engagement, says the event is open to solo artists and small groups. “We’re looking for anything from soloists to groups of five,” she says. “It’s kind of like a miniature Folk Fest—we’re looking for more of that calming, folky, country, bluegrass kind of vibe.”
The five-concert series will take place once a month from May to September, rotating between different communities in the RM of Ritchot. This year, a fifth location has been added, with the community of Howden joining St. Adolphe, Ste. Agathe, Ile des Chenes and Grand Pointe.
In addition to live music, the RM will also host outdoor movie nights. The lineup of films will be decided through public voting on social media, and final selections will be announced about a week before each screening.
“We typically put options on our social media stories and let the community vote,” says Peters. “That way, they get to choose what they want to watch.”
Both the concerts and movie nights are free to attend, with event details and locations posted on the RM’s website and social media pages. Artists interested in performing at Homegrown Harmonies can apply by emailing dpeters@ritchot.com with their name, stage name, group size, genre and location.
