A 17-year-old singer who recently auditioned on American Idol is using the platform to put God front and centre.

Canaan James Hill, a content creator who graduated early from high school, says he is currently in preaching.

"I want to go forth with my gift and do what God has called and chosen me to do," said Hill

For his audition, he sang Earnest Pugh's "I Need Your Glory."

The song had judge Lionel Ritchie dancing and raising his hands in worship. It also had Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood on the verge of tears.

"That was powerful," said Ritchie. "You have been so blessed," said Ritchie. That was something so spectacular. I can't even describe what I heard."

"It was smooth but powerful," said Carrie. "You have a gift. Thank you for bringing your gift to us. I'm kinda speechless."

Bryan said he's never heard or experienced someone like Canaan before.

"When you sing at church, what do people do? Do they just run to the baptism pit and jump in it and get saved immediately?" said Luke.

Canaan went on to receive the third and final platinum ticket, allowing him to bypass the first round of Hollywood.

Hill says he is excited to spread that gospel to the world.
