Christian singer and author Jodi King is making her way back to Manitoba for Fun & Faith's upcoming women's event.
"I'm bringing everything," says King, in regards to the upcoming Girls' Night Out event. "I wrote a book called You Got This: A Guide to Ditching Perfect and Showing Up for Your Real Life. I called it a guide book so that people who were curious would be like, 'Oh, I'll pick this up.' But Christians would understand, God really guides us. I see Holy Spirit as a tour guide."
King will be singing and sharing some of her story with audiences in Morden, Winnipeg, and Brandon during the Girls' Night Out tour put on by Fun & Faith.
"[My book] was the catalyst for getting to speak. I was like, 'God, I'm not a speaker. I'm a singer. I'm not the girl for the job.' But it turns out, we are all the girl for the job when we just say 'Yes. I'll follow you, God.' It turns out I really love it. I enjoy speaking to women and with women, journeying with women through faith in life."
King's husband, Chris Rademaker, the other half of the band Love & the Outcome, will be joining her on the tour so they can share some of their songs as well. The couple will be bringing their two sons along also.
"I think it's hard to find a place to go and grow in your faith and have fun," says King. "The name [of the event] is very suiting. It truly is fun. There's always been a version of this that's existed, but not always as much of a focus on the fun part of it. I like to remind people, it really is a girl's night out."
King will be accompanied by comedian Timmy Boyle for the two and a half hour evening. There will also be a game show the women can participate in. Girls Night Out will be in Brandon on May 8, Winnipeg May 9, and Morden May 10. Tickets can be purchased here.
"You will leave with some tips and tricks to do life in a deeper way with God and each other. But you will also laugh your head off. I think that combination just makes any girl's night really fun."
King and Rademaker originally grew up in Winnipeg and now live in Tennessee.
"COVID made it so difficult for everybody. But it really stopped Chris and I from coming back to Canada for a really long time. It's overdue, and most of our family still live in Winnipeg. It's a chance to see family and perform. We're really excited."
