Steinbach and area residents are invited to sweeten up their Easter weekend by joining the Great Easter Egg Hunt at the Mennonite Heritage Village (MHV).
Derek Williamson, the owner of Steinbach's A&W and an event sponsor, says the event offers a break between the hustle and bustle of festive meals.
"Right at 11 o'clock is when we do the hunt. (This year) we've mixed it up a little and have chocolate and lollipops," he says.
Doors open at 10 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
Altogether, there are more than 60,000 candies with at least 40,000 chocolate eggs and 20,000 lollipops in root beer and other flavours.
It's the fourth annual hunt held at the MHV, the first held shortly after Williamson arrived in the area from his hometown in Alberta.
He says it's held every year to promote fun in the community.
"It's nice to get the community together for a fun event, and it's not too long. Just a small break between your Easter celebrations, and we can celebrate together as a community," Williamson says.
The A&W owner says he loves watching the community show up for a joyous 10 to 15 minutes of "madness," and "laughter, screaming, and) fun" as participants scramble to collect sweet treats.
He notes there is a zone for those seven years old and younger so they can "take their time and enjoy the process."
There will also be free coffee available for adults, he says.
Williamson also encourages attendees to bring non-perishable food items in support of Southeast Helping Hands.
