With six successful events last year, the Weyburn Market on the Farm is back for the season, with the first event coming up May 3rd from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
"We are super excited to get our season of markets up and running again," shared host and organizer Alissa Bjorn.
"We have lots of new vendors lots of returning vendors. The buzz is incredible already, and we are really looking forward to once again serving the community, having people coming out from local and as far as Estevan and Moosejaw and just spending time together enjoying fresh food, beautiful vendors, goods, and music."
She said last year's events just got better and better, concluding with a Christmas market at Signal Hill. The summer markets will be returning to the farm, located just five minutes west and north of Weyburn.
"If you're heading out towards Yellow Grass or Regina, we are just five minutes up the road, past the grain elevators turn right on Range Road 2152 or north on 2152 on your way to McTaggart and our farm is just about two kilometers up on your right. There will be signs and everything, so it should be easy to find."
Bjorn said they will be, "praying for amazing weather. We were blessed with the most amazing weather all last year. So we're going to expect that again this year."
Since they have outgrown the option of hosting an indoor market, she said anyone questioning the likelihood of a cancelation can check their Facebook group.
Vendors range from newcomers to those who have been at all of them, including Berry Blossom Orchards. There will be gluten-free baking, woodworkers, popcorn, and more.
During last year's events, Bjorn said they saw groups of kids, families with young children, and seniors heading out to the markets.
"They would just stay and they would eat and listen to the music and then you'd see them circle through the market again and grab a cinnamon bun or a bowl of soup and come back and sit and we have people coming out for hours because they just loved the experience."
To complete the experience, as always, there will be live music at the markets once again this year.
"We want people to come stay awhile, enjoy themselves, support local, make some new friends, hang out with old ones, and so we always strive to have live music," she shared. "We have Jacquie Walbaum from the Sirens Dueling Pianos coming out this time, which is amazing."
Rather than burgers, there will be soup and sourdough buns available for purchase.
"So you come, have your lunch, do some shopping, grab some baking and Mother's Day presents. If people are looking for planters, wood planters, you've got some of those coming, lots of little plants and flowers you can buy, there's going to be some seeds off some local kids that have been screening seeds from their gardens to share. It's just such an amazing place to support young and old entrepreneurs."
Admission is $2 for adults.
"It just helps us keep the market going, support our musicians, and helps us build to be able to keep it sustainable for the future," she noted. "We do have some wonderful outdoor bathrooms and not just like Porta-Potties but full-on plumbing bathrooms available for those who need it. Because it's just on grass, it's very easily accessible for those with limited capabilities that would want to avoid things like stairs."
